  • Inside runners appropriate for basketball, with non-marking soles
  • Marked water bottle
  • A bag to store players equipment for games and practices is recommended
  • Team jerseys will be provided to the teams for the season, and must be returned at the end of the season. If a player wants to wear a t-shirt under their jersey, it should be white to match the NEBA uniform.
  • Navy blue basketball shorts will be provided to the players, and are required as part of the uniform (Nike, Adidas, school team shorts are not appropriate attire).
THE SEASON AND DIVISIONS
  • The basketball season runs from the last week of September to early March.
  • Practices are held in northeast Edmonton school gyms on week nights between 6pm and 10pm. Breaks in the schedule will occur when school gymnasiums are closed for long weekends and school events.
    • Teams will be assigned one regular practice night per week in late September. Other gymnasiums and dates may be assigned to teams depending on availability.
    • Parents are responsible to get their child to and from practices and games.
    • If a player is unable to attend a game or practice, please remember to let your coach know as soon as possible to help them plan accordingly.
  • Please be aware of our gym etiquette rules and code of conduct.

9U Division

  • 9U basketball starts the last week of September and runs thru to March depending on the availability of school gyms that we use for the program.
  • 1 hour practices are usually held on Monday nights, based on gym allocations and coach availability. This schedule will be available in late September.
  • There are no regular games at this level - the focus is on skill development. The first half of the program will be spent on skill development, and then progress to game type experience in the second half of the program in preparation for the year end EYBA tournament.
  • The season wraps up with a 9U tournament in March.

Community Division: 11U - 18U

  • All players are eligible to play in the community program and will be placed on a team in mid to late September.
  • Teams are created considering friend requests, dates available to practice, and any previous experience with NEBA.
  • Games usually will start the first week of October and runs until the first weekend prior to spring break.
    • Games are scheduled at the Saville Center, Legacy Athletics, the EYBA Center, and school gyms in Edmonton and the surrounding area.
    • Community division games are generally played on Saturdays (occasionally Friday evenings or Sunday morning).
    • Teams will be re-seeded by EYBA several times during league play.
    • Regular season games will be followed by play-offs in March.
  • The 18U program is broken up into 2 seasons (Fall and Winter), as players may not play for a community league winter season, and their high school senior basketball team at the same time.

Competitive Division (Tier 1 and 2): 13U and 15U only

  • Evaluations will usually occur in late August to create the teams. All players are welcome to attend evaluations.
  • Teams are created based on player ability. The competitive team will only be created if there are enough players registered in the program.  Teams can be moved from competitive level to community level based on their play (re-seeding).
  • Games usually will start the first week of October and runs until the first weekend prior to spring break.
    • Games are scheduled at the Saville Center, Legacy Athletics, the EYBA Center, and school gyms in Edmonton and the surrounding area.
    • Competitive division games are played on Wednesday nights (Girls program) and Tuesday nights (Boys program).
    • Teams will be re-seeded by EYBA several times during league play, and can move to community division (i.e. Tier 3)
    • Regular season games will be followed by play-offs in March.
